is specifically designed for the measurement of intracellular calcium or ph changes in live cells through the simultaneous detection of two different fluorescence emission spectra intensities. fluorescent dyes are excited by one excitation spectrum producing simultaneously two emission spectra. the resulting a and b signals indicate changes within the cell. a ratio signal is provided for a:b or b:a.

optical system: exclusive seven element quartz optical system focuses excitation energy onto the sample with emmitted fluorescence energy collected and focused to two (2) photomultiplier tubes providing two (2) individual emission channels. excitation and emission filters are placed in collimated (parallel) light paths for optimum filter performance.

optical filters: excitation and emission filter holders are readily accessible to accommodate glass and/or interference filters. filters covering the entire fluorescent spectral range are available.

light source: 100 watt high intensity mercury vapor lamp radiates the full uv and visible spectrum of energy.

photomultiplier tubes: two 200-700nm photomultiplier tubes are standard. extended range (200-900nm) photomultiplier tube is also available.

blank suppression and variable gain: two sets of front panel controls are provided for the suppression of blank fluorescence background to zero and adjustment of full scale signal to a specific number.

display: two independent fluorescent intensity levels are digitally displayed and may be recorded simultaneously with a recorder signal.

ratio output: a ratio signal is provided for a:b or b:a.

note: when used in l rather than t configuration, operation and performance is identical to the model a1 fluorometer.
